Corruption Across Zambia Widespread, Revealed By The Testimony From Sc Judge Mumba Malila

The Supreme Court of Zambia is the highest justice system of the nation and recently, a notable judge from the Supreme Court came out with a revealing testimony. Honorable Justice Mumba Malila testified in front of the court regarding large scale corruption and unethical practices across the nation. The testimony also revealed that these issues of corruption and unethical practices are not only limited to private enterprises but have also penetrated the government and public systems, including legal governance such as courts. The testimony exposed that due to the large scale corruption of politically powerful yet corrupt individuals, honest businessmen and local citizens are suffering the most.

A major revelation in the testimony by Justice Mumba Malila was associated with Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a successful and well-established businessman in Zambia. In his testimony, the justice revealed that the case of 2012 in which the final decision was given against Dr. Rajan Mahtani was influenced by several political undertones. As per the testimony, the decision given by the tribunal was against the interests of the general policies. Justice Mumba Malila was the attorney general during the time and he made several honest attempts and even shared testimonial letters before the tribunal to make the case ‘null and void’ as it was incorrect. However, no such actions were taken by the Tribunal during that time. It is clear that decision making was influenced by external forces.

It is unsure that Dr. Rajan Mahtani will receive justice for the wrongdoings against him in the past. But it is important for the government to start taking stringent actions and make the nation a better place to live.
